About Me

My name is Shawn, and I love to teach. I’m a NASM-CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) and committed to ongoing professional development, currently expanding my knowledge with additional certifications to better serve my clients. My fitness journey brought me to powerlifting, and while I’ve competed a few times for fun, my true passion lies in coaching and handling athletes on the platform. I’ve had the privilege of guiding my wife in her powerlifting career, during which she’s set several state and national records, as well as working with others to help them achieve their own lifting goals.

I’m originally from Alaska, growing up in the Air Force and moving around a lot. In high school, I played every sport I could, lettering in soccer, football, baseball, and basketball. At 23, I joined the Army National Guard, where I served for 6 years, including one deployment in support of OIF/OEF.

Since 2012, I’ve transitioned careers multiple times, always with a focus on teaching and mentoring. In 2025, I decided to make fitness my full-time focus, earning my certification as a personal trainer. But, becoming a personal trainer wasn’t just a career change for me—it was a way to give back, to help others find the same joy and transformation that fitness has brought into my life. I’m deeply passionate about empowering people to take control of their health, build lasting strength, and embrace the process of becoming the best version of themselves.

After years of an on-and-off fitness journey, I made a life-changing decision in 2023 to fully dedicate myself to improving my health and fitness. What spurred this? A diagnosis of pre-diabetes. Through research, I found out that diet alone is not necessarily sufficient in this battle and fitness should be a large part of the changes I made. Since then, I’ve looked for ways to help others in their fitness journey, before my new-found passion led me to finally making it official and starting Eisbär Personal Training.

I believe in a coaching style that’s rooted in collaboration, where we work together to achieve your goals, adapt as needed, and make lasting changes. Every person’s journey is unique, and I strive to create a training plan that suits your needs, abilities, and lifestyle.

Coaching Philosophy

I believe great coaching is a collaboration. You’re not just following a program — you’re partnering with a coach who builds around your strengths, listens to your feedback, and adjusts when needed. My role is to guide, structure, and challenge you — your role is to show up and communicate honestly. Training should feel like a partnership, where we work together to get you to your goals.

Training should be based on both scientific principles and practical application. I use a powerbuilding framework that emphasizes strength through the core lifts (squat, bench, overhead press, and deadlift), while incorporating bodybuilding-style accessory work and rep schemes for muscle retention, hypertrophy, and fat loss. If your goal is to lose fat while maintaining strength and muscle, this hybrid structure gives us the best of both worlds, optimizing your progress for long-term success.

Effort and consistency are non-negotiable. The success of any program comes down to execution. I coach with a focus on intensity, using RIR (Reps in Reserve) instead of chasing arbitrary weight or rep targets. Your job is to push yourself close to failure — safely — and track progress honestly. We’ll adapt the plan based on your performance, fatigue, and recovery week to week, ensuring that we’re always working with your body’s needs.

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all coaching. Your training environment, equipment access, recovery, and experience level all shape the program I build for you. Substitutions, adjustments, and phase changes are part of the process — not a sign of failure. Everyone’s journey is unique, and the ability to pivot is what makes your plan successful in the long term.

Finally, I believe in building long-term results. We’re not chasing perfection or punishing workouts. We’re training to build a body that not only performs at its best and looks the way you want it to, but also supports you for years to come.
